We all understand that building a personal brand is reliant on two things: your network and your ability to deliver. Networking and delivery of a product or an experience is fundamental for your personal brand value. In order to build a powerful network online, you can use a plethora of different sites such as LinkedIn or Facebook.
We'll start by discussing using Twitter.
For those of you who do not know, Twitter is a website that allows you to follow other people and capture content they distributecalled tweets. Tweets are messages sent out by a user's account.
It does seem fairly simple except for one glaring issue: A single tweet (or message) is allowed only 140 characters of content each time.
A tweet is set to 140 characters. This means you can barely send out two full sentences at once. For the more winded individual in the world, this is a tough proposition!
140 characters for one message? I can't possibly define my brand in that short message!
If you have not used Twitter, it is high time you start an account and experiment. There are three questions to answer about using any form of social media when building your brand.
- Are any of my customers using Twitter for communication?
- Are any of my competitors using Twitter for communication?
- Is anyone in my industry using Twitter for communication?
Did you answer yes to any of the previous three questions? If so, you need to be using Twitter. Twitter is growing by leaps and bounds and it is important that you start utilizing the tool. There are thousands upon millions of people using Twitter, and many of them could be your future clients or supporters of your personal brand!
1. Use Twitter Search
If you are using Twitter, you know how hard it is to follow all the conversations. It is important to utilize this tool to follow conversations on this growing social network. Use Twitter Search to follow certain trends (social media marketing) or people (competition perhaps?).
