Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, What?
The NOOKcolor originally released using Android OS version 2.1. This is also called Eclair. The versions are referred to by the following names:
Android OS Version |
Name |
2.0/2.1 |
Eclair |
2.2 |
Froyo |
2.3 |
Gingerbread |
3.0 |
Honeycomb |
The NOOKcolor firmware update 1.2.0 upgraded the NOOKcolor to Froyo, which supports Flash web pages among other things. Originally, many of the roots to the NOOKcolor rooted using Froyo. But now that Froyo is the basic on the NOOKcolor, rooting to it seems less appealing. Honeycomb is only just released, and all the rooting options for it are considered experimental, so we will avoid it now.
We will be using a very stable root using Gingerbread, and this specific root uses CyanogenMod 7 (CM7).
