Summary
In this article, I showed you the tools you can use for monitoring and troubleshooting replication. You can use the Replication Monitor included with Enterprise Manager, the Performance Monitor counters specific to replication, distribution database tables, and stored procedures. As with any troubleshooting related to SQL Server, it is also helpful to check error logs.
I also briefly discussed situations when one of the pieces of the replication puzzle (publisher, subscriber, or distribution) is not available. The next article in this series will discuss maintaining transactional publications and factors affecting replication performance.
