It was only about one year between when Apple first released the original iPad and the March 11, 2011 launch of iPad 2 in the United States. However, many early iPad adopters have already upgraded to the new tablet device, or are planning to upgrade in the near future.
The good news is that as long as you perform a successful iTunes sync of your original iPad, transferring all your apps, data, and personalized iPad configurations to the iPad 2 is a very simple process that involves simply restoring the iPad 2 from the original iPad's latest sync backup using iTunes.
Easily Transfer Your iPad Apps, Data, and Custom Configurations to Your New iPad 2
When you first connect your new iPad 2 to iTunes, during the initial setup process, the Set Up Your iPad screen will display the message "This computer has been previously synced with an iPad or another iOS device." You will be given the option to "Set up a new iPad" or "Restore from the backup of: [insert device name]".
To transfer all your original iPad's apps, data, and customized configurations to the new device, select the "Restore from the backup of…" option. iTunes will then automatically configure your new iPad 2 in a way that looks and functions exactly like your original iPad. Thus, you will not have to reconfigure or reinstall any of your apps.
Your email accounts, calendar, and contacts list, for example, will automatically be set up and functional on your iPad 2, and all your music, playlists, movies, TV shows, eBooks, videos, and photos stored on your original iPad will be transferred over automatically during this initial "Restore from the backup of…" iTunes sync.
As you initially connect your iPad 2 to iTunes to set up and configure the device, you will be asked to give the iPad 2 a device name. Make sure you give it an original name that differentiates it from other Apple devices (your iPhone, original iPad, or iPod) that you've previously synced with iTunes on your computer.
