Yukon's Prospects
When will eNom take on Yukon? "We've seen SQL Server 2003, and it was very stable running on the new OS. We're considering becoming a Yukon beta tester in March, but we want to get some performance metrics from Microsoft before deciding," according to Beaver.
eNom has yet to take a look at SQL Server Reporting Services for SQL Server 2002, a new feature that entered beta in September.
"What typically spurs us to move to a new platform is a new capabilityfor example, the improved SMTP and POP Service in Microsoft Exchange Server 2003," Beaver says.
eNom is just now embracing Exchange Server 2003and only for internal purposes, at that.
"When there is something really new, we wait until the product hits GA, with at least one service pack under its belt. That's when we move," Beaver adds.
After a series of delays, Microsoft doesn't expect to start shipping the next edition of SQL Server until late 2004. Meanwhile, on the whole, eNom seems pleased with its latest server architecture.
"SQL Server 2000 is running very smoothly with our new OSand at the same time, we're getting enhanced clustering capabilities," sums up Muller.
