Vista's Network Location Feature
One great new feature in Vista is the ability to set the network location. When you first connect to a network, as Figure 2 shows, you set its location type: Home, Work, or Public.
Choosing Home or Work makes your computer discoverable since you trust the network. If you select Public, Windows automatically disables network discovery and sharing, since you don't want others on a public connection or Wi-Fi hotspot accessing your computer.
If you find it necessary to change the network location you've set for a particular network, open Network and Sharing Center, and click the Customize link to the right of the network name.
