Remaining Problems
While the wireless driver works adequately, there appears to be a reception problem. Where I was getting 91 percent signal with the Xandros driver, I'm getting 22-31 percent now. While this beats no reception, there is room for improvement here. I’d like controllable wireless output power.
I'd very much like to be able to find a script compatible with the Eee PC 900 that will give me the OEM version of my Fn keys back.
Conclusion
If you've followed the procedure described here, you've taken control of your Eee PC. You now have a small and extremely useful general purpose netbook whose function is defined by you, not a “What were they thinking?” crowd at ASUS who appear to have been so bent on creating a machine won't intimidate non-Linux users that they forgot that actual Linux users who know what can be done with Linux would be buying the machine who expect to be able to do things like replace the bundled software that fails with software of one's own choice that works. You also now have access to the world of Open Source applications, not just the handful of OEM applications that come with the Eee PC.
Enjoy your Eee PC—I certainly enjoy mine!
