Editing Paths with the Smooth and Erase Tools
You can edit any path with the Smooth and Erase tools, not just paths created with the Pencil tool. Both tools offer freehand modifications of existing paths. The Smooth tool lets you soften corners and curves. The Erase tool lets you erase path segments by clicking and dragging.
To smooth an existing path:

Select the path.

Drag the Smooth tool over an angular portion of the path to soften the angle (Figure 3.52).
To erase parts of an existing path:

Select the path.

Drag the Erase tool over the segment of the path that you want deleted (Figure 3.53). (Note that the active area of this tool is the eraser end of the icon.)
