Display Resize
At this point, you'll probably want to resize the screen so it'll more or less fit in the VMware Server console window, since the VMware Tools automatic screen resize doesn't work. Choose System > Preferences > Screen Resolution. I set my resolution to 1024 × 768, which almost fits in the console window. (My main display is 1024 × 1200.)
You'll see the kind of "update required" icon to the right of the Solaris top menu that's the same for Solaris GNOME as it is with any other GNOME window-managed OS (see Figure 3). Install the 2GB worth of updates the system will tell you it needs.

If this fails, open a terminal and enter this command:
# umount /lib/libc.so.1
Then install the updates. (Yes, it's a bug.)
