Your Technology Skills
Most technologists know the importance of technical skills. These skills represent the starting point for a career in technology and are, logically, the first tool mastered. Unfortunately, they often become the last tool mastered, too. For many technology professionals, tech skills become their only focus. They are the single peg on which they hang their career hat.
Technologists often overlook entirely the critical elements of professional networking, communication skills, and understanding business concepts. This ultimately leaves them with a toolkit that is incomplete and hinders their ability to complete the project of building their career.
When I speak to technologists about this, most admit to a nagging sense of missing something. They typically point to some technical skill that they feel they are lacking. And for this reason, they are in a headlong race to increase their intellectual capital through continued learning.
