Overview: What Is UDDI?
Universal Description, Discovery, and Integration (UDDI) is a standard originally proposed in September 2000 as the result of a collaborative effort among Microsoft, IBM, and Ariba. The standard proposed to provide a universal method of managing web services (much like DNS manages naming) across the Internet. UDDI is a specification for publishing and locating information about web services, web service providers, bindings, and technical interface definitions using a standard or custom classification scheme. The UDDI registry, like DNS or Active Directory, is a database that stores information using a defined schema. UDDI services are part of the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 operating system, providing integration with UDDI standards.
