C++ Gets the Jump on POGO
Profile Guided Optimizations (POGO) is not to be confused with Pogo, an online gaming site associated with Microsoft's Excite@Home.
Initially targeted at C++ developers, the new POGO feature is designed to "let you see how customers are using your application, after you've written and deployed it," Bixhorn said. Many C++ developers are ISVs, the Microsoft product manager observed.
You can use POGO's results to decide how you might want to make further changes to your code, according to Bixhorn. POGO made its first appearance in Microsoft's Platform SDK (PDSK). In Whidbey, though, POGO will be able to instrument the compiler.
