Mobile Database Review: Microsoft Databases for Windows CE
Introduction
In the fourth and final segment of our review of popular mobile database offerings, we'll take a look at two popular database offerings for Windows CE from Microsoft: Pocket Access 2002 and SQL Server 2000 Windows CE Edition (commonly referred to as SQL Server CE). Both of these products are relational databases that can be programmatically accessed from a number of popular Windows CE development tools, thanks to Microsoft's ADOCE database access API. The two products have many things in common, but each is clearly designed to meet a specific need. Pocket Access is ideal for smaller database applications that need to operate on a small number of tables. SQL Server CE supports replication with an enterprise SQL Server data store as well as advanced database capabilities.
